Terms & Conditions of Service
Borders Task Busters Ltd
1. About Us
Borders Task Busters Ltd provides practical outdoor services across the Scottish Borders, including maintenance, clearances, landscaping works, waste removal, jet washing, and small outdoor repairs.
These Terms & Conditions apply to all work carried out unless a separate written agreement has been agreed in advance.
2. Quotations & Pricing
All quotations are based on the information available at the time, including site condition, access, and scope of work described.
Where unforeseen conditions arise or additional work is requested, any changes to scope or cost will be discussed and agreed before proceeding.
3. Deposits
A deposit may be required before work begins.
All requested deposits must be paid in full before work is scheduled or materials or equipment are ordered.
In certain circumstances — including material-heavy jobs, access requirements, equipment hire, or where the client will not be present — a higher deposit may be required. This will always be confirmed in advance.
4. Payment on Completion
The remaining balance is due on completion of the work.
Payment is normally taken by card on site unless an alternative arrangement has been agreed in advance.
5. Client Not Present
If the client will not be present when work is completed, this must be confirmed in advance.
In these cases, an invoice will be issued and payment is due upon receipt, unless otherwise agreed in writing.
6. Late Payment Policy
Payment is due on the agreed date, which is normally on completion unless stated otherwise.
Where payment is not received on time, late payment charges will apply as follows:
-
An initial late payment charge of 5% of the outstanding balance, applied from the day after the payment due date
-
A further charge of up to 5% every 7 days that the balance remains unpaid
Late payment charges are applied to cover additional administration time, disruption, and costs caused by non-payment and will not exceed a reasonable level.
Late payment charges are applied automatically unless otherwise agreed in writing.
Persistent late payment may result in:
-
Suspension of any further work or bookings
-
Recovery action being taken to recover outstanding balances
Clients are encouraged to make contact as soon as possible if there is an issue with payment so matters can be resolved promptly.
7. Materials
All materials supplied or purchased for a job remain the property of Borders Task Busters Ltd until all invoices are paid in full.
8. Equipment Hire & Handling
Where specialist equipment is required and hired specifically for a job, the cost of hire will be charged to the client.
In some cases, a hire deposit may be required in advance to secure equipment. This will be confirmed before any hire is arranged.
A handling and administration fee of up to 10% may be added to hired equipment costs. This covers time spent arranging hire, collection and return, transport, setup, checking, cleaning, and responsibility for the equipment while on site.
Hired equipment remains under the control of Borders Task Busters Ltd at all times.
Any damage, loss, delay, or additional charges incurred due to misuse, site conditions, or restricted access may be passed on to the client where applicable.
9. Scope of Work
All work is carried out based on the agreed scope at the time of quotation.
Requests for additional work, changes to scope, or work required due to unforeseen conditions will be discussed and agreed before proceeding.
10. Access & Site Conditions
Clients are responsible for ensuring safe, clear, and reasonable access to the work area.
Delays, additional labour, or extra costs caused by restricted access, unsafe conditions, inaccurate information, or site obstructions may result in additional charges.
11. Weather
Many outdoor services are weather-dependent.
Borders Task Busters Ltd reserves the right to reschedule work if weather conditions are unsafe or unsuitable. No penalties apply in these circumstances.
12. Cancellations & Changes
Clients are asked to provide as much notice as possible if a booking needs to be changed or cancelled.
Short-notice cancellations may incur a charge to cover lost time, preparation, or materials or equipment already ordered.
13. Cooling-Off Period (Consumer Contracts)
Where a contract is agreed off-premises or at a distance (for example, by phone, email, or online), domestic clients may have a 14-day cooling-off period in line with UK Consumer Contracts Regulations.
If the client requests that work begins within the cooling-off period, they acknowledge that:
-
Their right to cancel may be reduced or lost once work has started
-
Any work completed and costs incurred during this period may still be chargeable
Cooling-off rights do not apply to:
-
Commercial clients
-
Emergency or urgent works requested by the client
-
Work that has been fully completed with the client’s consent
14. Warranty & Workmanship
Borders Task Busters Ltd warrants that work will be carried out with reasonable care and skill in line with accepted trade standards.
This warranty covers workmanship only and does not cover:
-
Normal wear and tear
-
Weather-related deterioration
-
Pre-existing defects or underlying issues
-
Damage caused by third parties, misuse, lack of maintenance, or changes made after completion
-
Natural movement of ground, soil, timber, or materials
Materials supplied remain subject to the manufacturer’s warranty where applicable.
Any concerns regarding workmanship must be raised within 28 days of completion to allow inspection and resolution where appropriate.
15. Invoices & Queries
Any queries regarding invoices must be raised within 3 working days of receipt.
After this period, invoices will be considered accepted.
16. Acceptance of Terms
By instructing Borders Task Busters Ltd to proceed with any quoted work, the client confirms acceptance of these Terms & Conditions unless a separate written agreement has been agreed.
